Players can purchase a hacker service to lower their Public Awareness.
Price: 1000 x Current Public Awareness x Number of points to be reduced
Availability: Current Public Awareness + Number of points to be reduced, F
Example: Joe has a public awareness of 5 and is getting tired of seeing his face in the evening news. The trailer of the upcoming action sim "Shadow Knight", featuring the tales of his actions, spread through word-of-mouth, aren't all too pleasent either, however flattering they might be. Since even his fixer won't answer his phone half the time anymore, Joe decides to find a hacker or two and pay them to get rid of his online profil and the annoying blogpost about his feats.
His player wants to lower is Public Awareness by 3 points, bringing it down to 2.
The Cost for this will be 5 (current) x 3 (number to be taken off) x 1000 nuyen, or 15,000 nuyen. The availability is 5 (current) +3 (number to be taken off), or 8F.
Note that erasing a few files alone won't do the trick. The character will have to alter certain usual habits of his - change the usual bars, find a different hideout, lay low for a while.
For every point lowered on Public awarness, the character has to lay low for one week, which means he can't be seen in public, or he has to alter his appearance. Everytime the player goes into public (and someone sees through his disguise if uses one, following normal rules for disguise), roll 1D6. If the result is lower than the points of lost awareness, one point of public awareness returns.
For every week that passes, the threshold is reduced by 1, making it easier to stay hidden for the character.
Example: Joe reduced his awareness to 2, but he will have to lay low for at least three weeks and let things blow over. But he already had plans to meet with a chummer in a bar in Renton, thus making it hard to lay low. He decides to go anways, using wide clothes and nanopaste to alter his appearance. The meeting is next to a public school - great. One of them annoying kids will recognize him.
The GM rolls 1D6 (3 and lower will give his identity away) and rolls a 4. Lucky for Joe, the kids don't recognize him from the news.
Next week it will be easier for him to hide in public, thus reducing the threshold on the 1D6 roll to 2 and lower.
