I'm not sure where exactly I've seen this, but it was somewhere in the 3rd edition.
Characters, that possess a specialization in a particular skill, can further specialize towards a certain, personal and unique item, style, etc.
This type of specialization is called Mastery, and can only be applied to skills, the character already specialist in and that he possesses a certain, personal item for.
For example, Bloodthirster is a fairly good driver when it comes to ground craft vehicles. His skill rating is 3. When it comes to personal cars, he is even better, thus he specialized in personal cars and receives an extra 2 dice for driving any normal car with 4 wheels (though not bikes, or special, armored vehicles).
But he owns an 1960 Ford Mustang. On the outside, as well as the interior, the Mustang looks almost 100% like the original, though the engine and gadgets of the car have been modified and upgraded to keep up with the changes, over 110 years later. Yes, this vehicle is special and something, you can't ever buy off any lot. Bloody further specialist his Pilot Groundcraft (personal cars) skill to this particle Mustang, gaining an extra 2 dice for driving this, and only this, car.
The skill would look like this: Pilot Groundcraft (Personal cars; 1960 Ford Mustang) 3(5;7)
The cost for a Mastery is 2 Karma, as any specialization ingame, or 2 BP at character creation.
Note, that a Mastery can only be acquired for a single, personal and unique item. Maybe the character specialized his Pistol skill to Heavy Pistols, but there was this one Ares Predator IV, that saved his ass once. With only one bullet left, and a jeep full gangers approaching, he managed to hit the fuel tank of the jeep, taking out all passengers at once. Ever since, his confidence with this Ares Predator IV increased to a point, that, no matter how old it is, or how many times he had to repair it, he will always shoot better with this Pred, than with any other Pistol if its type.
To acquire an item at character creation, that the character has a Mastery in, increase the item cost by 20% to simulate the uniqueness of the item.
While this option mostly applies to skills, that are linked to items (such as firearms or technical skills), it might also be applied to physical skills like unarmed combat or infiltration.
For example, a character specialist unarmed combat on subduing, but further mastered this technic, subduing when he is in a superior position (see combat modifiers in the core book). So, whenever the character is in a superior position, he can add the extra 2 dice to his attack test when subduing.
Be creative, and I'm sure we can agree on Masteries for any skill available.
